As your website grow and you start getting huge traffic eating up your allotted server resources which may result in performance of your website then its time to upgrade your hosting plan to next higher level, if your site is hosted on shared hosting then you its always better to get a VPS hosting for your website, VPS is more advance form of hosting package where you get dedicated server like environment, you will have dedicated CPU, RAM, Harddrive, root access to your server and many other server resources so you can consider VPS as a economical option for dedicated server if you cant afford to pay for a fully managed dedicated server. VPS stands for Virtual Private Server as the name suggest it’s a virtual server where you would be have root/Administrative access for your server so that you can install required softwares/applications on your server which may not be possible on shared hosting plans also you have greater security for your server/hosting account as these servers are monitored round the clock for their security, all webhost try to give you maximum uptime as they are given more importance and have excellent harware for master server where your VPS account would be created. All VPS hosting accounts are isolated from one other so your account would be completely safe though you share same master server. VPS can be considered as cheaper option for dedicated server and you can enjoy all benefits which you would get form a dedicated server. If you opt for Linux VPS your webhost will offer you root access to your server and if you opt for getting windows VPS you will have Administrative RDP access to your server so that you can manage your server easily…..
Most webhosting service provider will offer you managed VPS hosting accounts so it always better to check if the servers are managed or unmanaged. Check how many VPS hosting account would be created on master node and ensure that master node would not be overloaded by many VPS’s. check what CPU,RAM, harddrive space you would be getting for your VPS. Most important what is the make of master node where your VPS would be created. You should also check what kind of service & support you would be getting from your webhosting service provider. Is it Live or ticket based. All the above factors should be considered before you place order for getting VPS.
